Critical Thinkers are Mini-Makers

Learn to utilize mini-maker projects with written story problems that require students to analyze a situation and decide on a solution. Then, each student creates the Mini-Maker solution with the provided materials. After completing the project, students reflect on the solution and project. BYOD for this hands-on session.

Using Picture Books to Enhance and Enrich the SSGS Curriculum

Librarians will learn about a collaboration between middle school library staff and 7th grade social studies teachers who explored different ways to use fiction and nonfiction picture books within daily social studies lessons. Librarians will walk away with a list of picture books and corresponding activities/lessons. Includes ideas for using picture books with all areas of secondary SSGS curriculum.

In the 2022-2023 school year, we decided to reorganize our nonfiction section to make it more inviting and accessible to our high school students. This school year, we were at different high schools. Come hear updates about how we left the Dewey Decimal system behind and recategorized nonfiction, as well as, what the new system looks like in two different school and counties. We will be sharing the shelf labels, spine stickers, and all of the planning and reorganizing involved.
